Guidelines for Selection
The intent of the International Merit Scholarship is to reward self-motivated students who consistently work hard to achieve their personal best. They come prepared to every class (on time!), participate in class discussions and ask questions inside and outside of the classroom.
The scholarship is awarded three times a year at the end of each semester: Summer, Fall and Winter.
Scholarship Coordinator
The Scholarship Coordinator is nominated by the donors. The Scholarship Coordinator will administer the scholarship as follows:
- arrange a selection meeting for all teachers at the end of each semester
- moderate the selection process at the selection meeting
- arrange a small ceremony at which she/he will hand out the scholarships (certificates and money)
- ensure that a digital picture is taken of each recipient at the ceremony
- mail the picture to the webmaster
Teachers
Teachers are an integral part of the success of the scholarship. As a teacher, here is what you need to do:
- observe your students throughout the semester and at the end of the semester nominate one or two of the most exceptional
- attend the selection meeting, organized at the end of the semester by the Scholarship Coordinator
- confer with fellow teachers at the selection meeting and decide who the scholarship recipients will be
- take part in the small ceremony arranged by the Scholarship Coordinator
- for each student that is selected one teacher must write a short statement about the student (see Recipients for an example of the short statement)
- email the short statement to webmaster
